What are kaomoji?       
Kaomoji or Emoticons, are a japanese pictorial representation of a facial expression using characters (punctuation marks, numbers, letters etc) that are often used online to express emotions ! ^__^
Emoticons are more general, international emoticons but Kaomoji are the emoticons more common in Japan or other eastern asian countries! (The japanese keyboard even has a kaomoji feature)
